11 September 2009 - Swiss Grand Resort & Spa Saved By GFC

Plans to redevelop the Swiss-Grand Resort & Spa, Bondi Beach have been shelved due the global financial crisis which has seen Bondi Beachside Pty Ltd reassess its business plans. As a result, the popular beachside hotel will remain open for business as usual for at least the next three years, and continue under Accor management.

The Swiss-Grand will undergo a soft refurbishment to its conference inventory and rooms, a project that was on hold while the hotel’s future being decided.

Richard Holt, General Manager of the Swiss-Grand Resort and Spa said he is thrilled that the hotel will continue to run for the foreseeable future.

“I am delighted that we can now assure our guests that the Swiss- Grand will not be closing down,” he said. “It has been difficult to plan for the future while the hotel’s development was in limbo but now we can concentrate on building business and move forward with quotes for weddings, conferences and events for at least the next three years.

“We have had so many clients upset because they thought the hotel was closing and now we can let everyone know that the Swiss-Grand Resort & Spa, Bondi Beach is here to stay for several more years at least.”

Bondi Beachside Pty Ltd has an approved development application with Waverley Council to renovate and upgrade the site of the Swiss-Grand Resort and Spa including the development of high quality residential apartments, a boutique hotel, restaurants, cafes and retail outlets.

27 April 2009 - Cleo Bachelor Of The Year Chooses Bondi's Most Eligible Hotel For Party

Cleo magazine has chosen Sydney’s most eligible beachside party hotel as the destination for its Bachelor of the Year celebration party on 22 April. This iconic crowning of the country’s most desirable single man has become one of the year’s most anticipated events – especially for Sydney’s single women. The Swiss Grand Resort & Spa was chosen as the ideal location to celebrate all that is good in Australian manhood, following this year’s photoshoot theme of ‘Rooftop Pools’.

Some of the more high profile men competing for the title this year include musicians Axle Whitehead (ex Australian Idol) and Daimon Downey (Sneaky Sound Sytem), actors Damien Walshe-Howling (Underbelly) and Angus McLaren (Packed to the Rafters) and AFL footballer Chris Johnson. One of the nominees, Bondi Rescue lifeguard Tom Bunting, will certainly feel at home and might enjoy a home crowd advantage on the night, although the winner will actually be chosen before this.

As one “this summer’s drinking spot”, the Swiss Grand’s rooftop pool area provides a fittingly beautiful backdrop for the Cleo party, to showcase the beauty of the boys and girls who will be attending.

This is the 22nd Cleo Bachelor of the Year award. Last year's winner was Jason Dundas.
